The Island Peak Expedition
The expedition is part of a huge fundraising effort that is driven by the aim of enhancing the educational prospects of many youngsters and ultimately leading to improvements in the living standards of the whole community of Jhumlawang village.
In May 2013, I will be nuts enough to take part in a 22 days expedition that will hopefully transform the lives of many including mine. I will climb Island Peak, one of the satellite peaks of Mount Everest, summiting at 6189 meters (20.305 ft.).
Our partner on the Island Peak Expedition is Mountain Monarch Adventures, a tour expert company based in Nepal. Mountain Monarch offered to lend their expertise, support and a professional mountaineering team helping me all the way up to the summit and back.
The Island Peak Expedition is also supported by Help Us Learn, a UK based organisation committed to realise universal primary education and JVF-Nepal, our implementation partner based in Nepal.

Universal Primary Education
Achieving Universal Primary Education is the driving force behind our work. We hope that through our projects we are making a positive contribution and helping our partners in their communities a step closer to materialising the core principles of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations.
Article 28
“Children have the right to an education. Discipline in schools should respect human dignity. Primary education should be free. Wealthy Countries should help poorer countries achieve this.”
Article 29
“Education should develop each child’s personality and talents to the full. It should encourage children to respect their parents, and their own and other cultures.”
